Scott Hawley’s interview – Focus Terroir
2015 Domaine de la Bastide, Cotes du Rhône, France. Transport yourself to the South of France with a blend of equal parts Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault, all farmed organically from estate vineyards. It’s crisp, fresh, and just a little silkier than a typical Provencal rose, light bodied with subtle red currant and strawberry flavors
2013 Law Estate Beguiling, 85% Grenache, 15% Syrah. Gorgeous as it is serious in structure, it was aged for 20 months and offers aromas of toasted vanilla, fresh fig, and dried cranberry which intensify the initial reaction to this wine. It is also driven by notes of cherry and ripe elderberries.
2013 Law Estate Intrepid, 100% Syrah. Aged 22 months in French oak, its stunning complexity and textural length are mind-blowing. Aromatics of dark berries, finely ground white pepper and cedar cigar-box pave the way for explosive black fruit and savoy herbs intertwined with coffee and charcuterie
2013 Law Estate Sagacious, 37% Grenache, 34% Mourvèdre, 29% Syrah. Aging in Foudres and barriques for 22 months leads to the aromas of exotic spice, African violets, and blackberries that provide a rich and decadent feel on the nose. Dark chocolate, creamy cassis and a touch of plum engulf the palate in a steady, yet delicious embrace.
